Introduction

Who is your trainer?

Hi!

My name is Wendy. I have been training dogs for many years and have a background in USAR Search Dogs, SPCA, pet dog behaviour modification, odour detection and general obedience training.

The photo on the left is my son and I with my Malinois, Navi. We'v just finished park run and are just about to head over the hill to train with our PSA club.

I graduated from the University of Waikato with my Bachelor of Science in Animal Behaviour (BSc AB) in 2002.  And more recently through post graduate studies gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Animal Behaviour (PGCert CAB). My thesis was focused on accuracy of detection dogs when target odours are changed and I plan to restart this to work towards a Masters degree in the near future.

When working with pet dog clients, getting the foundations right is a core part of my philosophy. One of the first things I teach owners is that many behaviours can be solved indirectly by getting these things right.  Clarity and relationship is key to building the dog you want and the control you need in the real world.

Watching the transformation of a dogs behaviour through the training process is amazing every time. Owners often believe their dogs behaviour is set in stone doubt that is can be changed. Showing owners their dog is not only capable of change, but also a lot more, is a bit of a buzz and the main focus of my practice. I will work with all breeds and sizes of dog and will assess any behavioural case.

Seeing the relief from owners when they can finally feel some progress and see the light at the end of the tunnel, after struggling with their dogs behaviour problems for so long, is the icing on the cake. Being able to finally relax and trust their dog, and their own capability to manage their dogs behaviour, can be life changing for the dog and owner.
